Agriculture Ministers from five South American countries have urged the EU and China to stop delaying import authorisations for genetically modified crops, reports the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA). In a joint statement, Agriculture Ministers of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay criticised the asynchronous “barrier to international trade which should be minimised” as it “has a negative impact on agricultural production systems”. They further stressed the need for countries in the region to work together to intensify information exchange in the approval of GMOs.
